PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method of producing omega-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFA and VLC-PUFA), which is presently widely recognized as an important compound for the health of humans and animals, in plants without involving the fishing industry. SOLUTION : The omega-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acid production method involves enhancing the expression of a fatty acid biosynthetic enzyme by coexpressing a silencing suppressor in plant storage organs by means of incorporating into a plant genome multiple foreign genes including a novel enzyme from a group having desaturase and elongase activity which can be used in a synthesis method of long chain polyunsaturated fatty acid, ω3 desaturase, Δ5 elongase, and Δ6 desaturase.
