PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide methods for mitigating the erythrocyte toxicity of anti-CD47 agents thereby enabling treatment with therapeutically effective amounts of the anti-CD47 agents. SOLUTION : The methods comprise administering a stimulant prior to administering a therapeutically effective dose of an anti-CD47 agent to the subject. Turnover of cells begins with induction of an apoptotic program or other cellular changes that mark the cells for removal, and subsequent recognition of markers by phagocytes, including macrophages, dendritic cells, and the like.
