PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a composition comprising oxymorphone covalently attached to carboxylic acid, a derivative thereof, a salt thereof, or a combination thereof.SOLUTION : The invention provides compositions comprising aryl carboxylic acids, such as NSAIDs, chemically conjugated to oxymorphone (4, 5-α-epoxy-3, 14-dihydroxy-17-methylmorphinan-6-one), including benzoates, salicylates, propionates, fenamates and acetates. The compositions have decreased potential for abuse of oxymorphone.
