453, 689. Board games. PARKER BROS., Inc., 190, Bridge Street, Salem, Massachusetts, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Darrow, C. B. ; 40, Westview Street, Mt. Airy, Philadelphia, U.S.A.) Feb. 7, 1936, No. 3796. Convention date, Aug. 31, 1935. [Class 132 (ii)] A board game apparatus for a game involving trading and bargaining comprises symbols or tokens for moving over a board acting as a playing field, and the board is marked round the edges with spaces constituting an endless path or course, some of the spaces being designated as by position or colour so as to constitute a distinguishable group, there being a number of such groups each having its spaces adjacent to the same side of the board, the apparatus having indications, for example on cards, of the rentals required for the use and occupancy, by opponent players, of spaces of one or more such groups, which indications shown that the rentals are subject to increase by the acquisition of an additional space or spaces of the same group by the same individual player, thereby making it possible for the possessor to exact, greater payment or penalties from any opponent whose symbols or tokens rest or trespass thereon. The board is marked around its periphery with forty spaces over which the pieces of the players are moved according to the throw of dice or by other chance determining means, commencing at the lower right-hand corner. Three such pieces are shown in Fig. 2. Twenty-two of the spaces on the board are marked with the names of streets, avenues, or places to indicate real estate areas and are also marked with bands c of colour, different groups of such areas bearing distinctive colours. Other spaces are marked to indicate Community Chest, Chance, Railroads, Utilities, Income Tax and Luxury Tax. A set of title cards one of which is shown in Fig. 6, correspond to the real estate areas and are marked with various rentals and values. If a player' s piece lands upon an unoccupied estate area, he may acquire the corresponding title card on payment of paper script previously distributed to the players one of whom acts as Banker. The player may then proceed to develop the estate area according to the rules of the game by placing one or more model houses or an hotel, Fig. 3, upon the area. Other title cards similarly deal with monetary values in connection with Railways and Utilities, such as electricity or water. Other cards marked Chance and Community Chest must be drawn by player whose piece lands on corresponding areas of the board, and these cards involve financial or other penalties or benefits to the players. |
