[Also in Division F2] Each driving wheel of a fork lift truck or other vehicle is driven through a separate reversing gear so that the vehicle may be steered thereby. Each reversing gear comprises bevel wheels 44, 46 selectively clutchable to an output shaft 36 and rotated in opposite directions by a bevel pinion 52. The wheels 44, 46 are frictionally engageable by clutch plates 78, 88 splined to the output shaft and shifted, through pressure plates 80, 90 rotating with the bevel wheels, by a thrust sleeve 92 which is in screw-threaded engagement with a fixed mounting block 94. The sleeve 92 is provided with an arm 100 connected to a manually operated linkage for rotating the sleeve to effect axial movement thereof to engage the selected clutch, the linkage being spring biased to a neutral position in which both clutches are disengaged.
