The front and/or rear airbag section (4, 5) are connected to the corresponding anchor points (2, 3) and fixed on the vehicle by at least one sleeve-form clamping device (6). The clamping device is expandable along its cross section during inflation of the airbag, its length being shortened during this expansion. The clamping device may be a mesh corset within which a sleeve is located. In its inflated state, the airbag is anchored by its upper edge over its whole length along a roof spar (10) of the vehicle.
