The invention involves providing to real estate listing brokers enhanced control over the use and dissemination of listing information. The listing broker associates metadata with the listing information. Such metadata may include for example sharing rules relating to the listing information. With suitable application software, such metadata can be interpreted to determine the extent to which a requestor of listing information will be given access to the information. In one embodiment, various levels of listing information may be provided to different categories of requestors.
