The present application arises from the need to search for service providers based on proximity of a geographic location. The present application discloses a consumer and service provider mediation system comprising a consumer computational application (103), a provider computational application (104) and a mediation central server (102), which in turn comprises a services database (101). A method of operating the system is also disclosed, which comprises the providers' geographical search with return of the resulting provider identifications and an evaluation field of the previous service performances, which is performed by the consumers. The system is used as a means of establishing contact and communication between consumers and service providers, such as, for instance, plumbers, electricians, locksmiths, real estate agents, auction companies, attorneys, economists, engineers, doctors, pharmacists, consultants or other kinds of services.
